2026 Workshops

A flavour of the kind of workshops that are included in the 2026 programme:

  • Leaders of Colour: Breaking through the Concrete Ceiling  - celebrating those who navigate the obstacles to participation, and asking how do we dismantle those obstacles.

.

  • Organising young people - every generation has to find its own path to advance social justice, what are the specific challenges and opportunities facing today’s youth?

..

  • Building solidarity through grassroots community organisations - how do we breathe life into ‘an injury to one is an injury to all’?

.

  • Improving racial literacy in schools - a session for educators that uses a games based approach.

.

  • Are you gay enough to be in the UK?  - intersectionality and the QTIPOC experience with Black and Brown Rainbow

  • Border violence - exploring how the UK government uses the externalisation of borders to try and disappear people on the move

  • Race, Fascism and Resistance - exploring the commonalities of racism and fascism and the role that racialised communities have played in organising resistance

  • Invisible at the Intersection: Black and Global Majority Young Carers - how the intersections of race and young caring can crossover to create unique and typically unnoticed responsibilities for BGM children.

.

  • Race equality groups in the North - world cafe

  • Asset based community development - how Ubele developed their headquarters in an environmentally sustainable manner.

  • Stories, Histories and Traditions - how the experiences of our elders can be used as a starting point for strategising the fight against fascism today

.

  • Defeating the far right: what next after the May elections? - given the anticipated wins for Reform UK in the local elections, and the threatened second ‘Unite the Kingdom’ march, how do we unite our communities and isolate the far right?

.

  • Tackling racism at the governance and leadership level - exploring effective strategies

.

  • Prevent - was meant to protect us, but instead it stereotypes and criminalises whole communities

.

  • Will Defeating Islamophobia Require Defining It? A Response to Recent Government Action - why an emphasis on defining “anti-Muslim hostility” and promoting cohesion cannot meaningfully addresses Islamophobia as a structural form of racism.

.

  • Inequalities, Trade Unions and Workplace Rights - raising awareness of trade unions in our communities.

  • Impact of fear on ethnic and racist hostility - using dance, art, movement, music and creativity to find common ground and recognise difference. Using case studies and role plays based on lived experiences.

.

  • Ours For Good: New Economies of Ownership for Community Wealth - creating shared inclusive space in our communities.
